Fruitful Winter
Fruitful LTD, the staff supply service developed by AMS as an additional service to its growers has successfully placed over 70 applicants onto farms this summer. The vacancies ranged from pickers and packers, to packhosue manages, with the majority of growers using the staff supplied for more supervisory roles.
Fruitful acts as an introductory service as opposed to an employment agency. It charges a set registration fee and fee per head leading to the grower taking on full employer responsibility. As well as being an extremely valuable service for growers taking away the hassle of finding seasonal staff, it has become a very real option for larger companies within the processing sector as the costs are very competitive against agency fees. This avenue has allowed Fruitful to place its work force in jobs over the winter when the seasonal farm worko has ended, ensuring that the workers are still available when the spring comes round again. These winter jobs cross over into other areas of the food industry - a Somerset cheese factory is taking all the workers it can, whilst companies within the soft fruit industry such as plant propagators are also tapping into Fruitful's work force.
Fruitful has a strong rapport with all its workers. Communication is key, ensuring that all available jobs are advertised and unhappy workers are relocated to other jobs. Applicants who in the main are overseas backpackers from countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Malaysia apply through www.fruitfuljobs.com where the site is also proving popular with those looking to make a carrer change within the Fresh Produce industry.
