Andrew Boxall celebrated after scooping top award
Produced in Kent member Andrew Boxall is celebrating after scooping a top national award.
Mr Boxall, whose Sutton Valence farm has the full support of the Kent County Council initiative, won the title of soft fruit grower of the year at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel.
He and his wife Elaine picked up the coveted trophy at the 10 th anniversary Grower of the Year Awards dinner. Two other Produced in Kent members, Alan Firmin and Charles Gaskain, were commended in the same category.
KCC Cabinet Member for Regeneration Alex King said: "This is good news for the county's growers. It shows Kent has lost none of its Garden of England reputation and that the highest quality strawberries are grown in Kent."
Produced in Kent Manager Rob Weaver said: "This is a real feather in his cap for Andrew Boxall and the title is justly deserved. He has pioneered new technology to produce the finest strawberries for customers."
Mr Boxall's strawberries were a highlight of last year's English Food and Wine Festival at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone. In a special deal struck by Produced in Kent, the strawberries also went on sale in Asda stores across Kent and the south east during the summer.
