A Taste Of Summer
The first Produced in Kent strawberries were a highlight of last weekend's English Food and Wine Festival.
Kent County Council backed Kentish Fare and Produced in Kent members showing off speciality food and drink from the Garden of England at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone.
Local grower Andrew Boxall, from Sutton Valence, near Maidstone, shipped freshly-picked strawberries in for the two-day festival. They were topped off with double cream from another Kent producer, Hinxden Farm Dairy, from Benenden.
Other Kent produce at the festival included cheeses, pasta, pies and pates; sauces, pickles and chutneys; cakes, jams and preserves and wines, juices, and cordial drinks.
Produced in Kent Manager Rob Weaver said: "Fresh strawberries from the Garden of England and fresh local cream give us a real taste of summer."
Local strawberries go on sale in Asda supermarkets next week - look out for the green Produced in Kent label which guarantees that products are from Kent. For further details, contact Rob Weaver at (01622) 221928 or email rob.weaver kent.gov.uk
