Locals look set to flourish
Recent research conducted by the grocery think-tank IGD, on behalf of Don Curry, found that 87% of the population considers farming to be important to Britain and see it as an important part of British heritage. Previous IGD research has shown that 7 out of 10 people are interested in buying local or regional food. The research shower overwhelmingly that people wanted food that is available for a limited period, or seasonal. 66 per cent would buy British produce that is seasonal as it is something to look forward to and a further 24 per cent think seasonal foods give them bertter taste at a certain time of the year.
The reports highlight that pure patriotism is not a good enouguh reason to buy British. However, people are intereseted in buying local or regional foods, they particularly want foor that is in its right season.
This all bodes well for Well Pict European (WPE) who has been pushing the virtues of local produce for the last 4 years.
Supermarkets have begun to notice that WPE is the only major soft fruit grower & supplier providing a service that is in demand by the UK consumer, we hope the multiples interest will result in the scheme expanding into more stores in 2006.
