Andrew Boxall Wins "Best Tasting Apple" award for his cox
At the 2006 National Fruit Show Andrew Boxall has been declared Winner for the Best Tasting Apple Award. Andrew won for his cox apple which had the best taste and flavour, sure to win over the minds of the public.
The National Fruit Show is an annual show which acts as a meeting place for the entire industry. The centrepiece of the show is the largest competitive display of commercially grown top and soft fruit staged in the UK. This is complemented by some 75 trade exhibitors promoting the latest machinery, research and development, technology, marketing and educational opportunities within the fruit industry.
The origins of The National Fruit Show can be traced to 1933 when a group of top fruit growers in Kent decided to break away from the local ploughing match and establish an event more adequately reflecting their needs to show top quality competitive fruit to potential buyers.
By 1997 the complexity and size of the show had increased, featuring by this time soft fruit in addition to top fruit, called for the involvement of major sponsorship.
Following the National Fruit Show in 2006 the fruit was taken to Borough Market in London, as part of The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers' 400th Year celebrations.

Held in Kent, the show is one of the biggest events in the soft fruit industry, making the award a particularly important win for Andrew Boxall.
The award was collected on behalf of Andrew Boxall of H A Boxall and Son in Sutton Valence, Kent by Chris Kember, who is a senior staff member at the farm.
