Sweet Taste of Kent
Andrew Boxall & AMS have pioneered local branding for Kentish strawberries
Local sourcing and locally grown was extended to Kent for the first time this year , whilst continuing with great success in both Cornwall and Scotland (Tayside) it’s Kent that has been the real success story with the enthusiasm of Andrew Boxall of Stallance Farm, the support of Kent County Council and local ASDA stores.
Sales through the stores have seen a substantial uplift since the scheme began. Asda has supported the scheme since the start with tasting sessions and promotions such as free cartons of cream. Such success has meant Andrew has had to develop both his packhouse facilities and his ability to deliver the product., resulting in the purchase of a new delivery truck. Demand has been such that he & AMS have actively encouraged other growers local to Andrew to help meet volume demands. Andrew has to ensure that all his suppliers comply with the stringent certification by Kent County Council to ensure that the product is grown in Kent and can bear the “Produced in Kent” logo.
AMS are keen to continue developing and promoting local sourcing and locally grown produce. This seasons success with Andrew and his continued desire for locally grown produce to be available to the people of Kent means that AMS and Andrew intend to supply all nine ASDA stores in the region next year whist expanding the scheme out to other areas of the country.
