Keep it local, keep it Cornish
As part of Well Pict European's on going policy to sell local produce, this year their Cornish operation has supplied strawberries to Kensey Foods based in Launceston in the county of Cornwall.
These local strawberries were used for their fresh strawberry cakes and fresh fruit tarts. Kensey foods is a dedicated bakery producing a wide variety of delicious desserts and employs around 700 staff on its 11-acre site. It is a part of the Samworth Brothers group which includes Ginsters pasties, Tamer Foods and Bradgate bakery in Leicester to name but a few.
The growing demand for premium-chilled desserts has seen continual expansion, since the business became independent in January 1997.
Purchasing Manager Jayne Stonehouse had said, “It’s been a challenging summer regarding the procurement of strawberries but as a business we believe in supporting the local community using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible”. Jayne welcomes the support that the Cornish group has given to their business and is looking forward to extending the business in 2006.
