Local success creates new WPE company
Well Pict European County Local is a partnership between Well Pict European and H A Boxall & Son. The alliance has been forged to deliver locally grown produce (fruit, vegetables, salad) to local Kent stores.
Well Pict European (WPE) has been the pioneer of locally delivered strawberries, when they customer AMS secured the supply of English top fruit to ASDA, WPE knew it could expand its local offer to encompass this. The result: AMS were able to launch English top fruit into ASDA stores through the chains Local Choice Campaign, AMS are confident it will be just as big a success as the local berry programme. The scheme works by cutting out the middle stages of production - chiefly the depot. Fruit is usually picked and packed on the same farm, and then transported to the local store by WPE County Local.
In Kent, the top fruit division manager of WPE County Local, responsible for the delivery is award winning berry and top fruit grower, Andrew Boxall. Boxall will manage the production and delivery of WPE County Locals Kentish apples.
As the concept has proved so popular Boxall works w ith a number of other growers in his area, regularly taking delivery of their crop to sort and pack. To accommodate this (and the expected growth in business) Boxall has almost completed building an 18,500 square foot packhouse on his maidstone farm, which will become the hub for local kent top fruit and berries before being channelled out to various customers.
WPE County Local is pleased to be supported by Kent County Council (KCC). Now more than ever they [KCC] are getting involved in produce marketing, trying to maximise the opportunities for Kentish produce.
